After the death of his first wife, Texana Clark Williams, she married James in 1884 and helped him raise his daughter, Blanche. Clara and James Williams had one child of their own, Bennett Autrey Williams.
After the death of James P. Williams on January 21, 1896, Clara was married to John S. Hale (the son of James J and Susan Stewart Hale). They ran the local general store in Coldsprings which had been owned by her former husband, James Williams. Both the names Clara and Bennett were given by Blanche to her children.
Clara Virginia is buried with her son, Bennett Autrey Williams. They share a grave marker in Laurel Hill Cemetery, San Jacinto County, Texas. Clara died at age 45 on March 10, 1911.
