Melvin H. 'Mel' Schuler

Melvin H. 'Mel' Schuler, 62, Atchison, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the Atchison Hospital.
Mel was born January 2, 1947 in Atchison, KS, the son of the late Wilford and Leila Schuler.
He graduated from Nortonville High School in 1965 and attended Highland Community College. Mel worked for Bromley Quarry; was a self employed roofing contractor and had most recently worked at the V.F.W. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gardening and watching classical movies. Mel was an avid KU fan who adored his grandchildren.
Mel and Sue Sullivan were married July 20, 1968 in Atchison. Sue survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son; Eric (Bridget) Schuler, Houston, TX, daughter; Kori (Fabio) de Andrade, Shawnee, KS, five brothers; Denny of McLouth, KS, Glen of Easton, KS, Alan and Paul both of Leavenworth, KS and Bernard "Clair" of Atchison, one sister; Rita Ostgren, Leavenworth, and 3 grandchildren; Sydney Schuler, Alessandra de Andrade and Sean Schuler.
Mel was also preceded in death by a brother; Carl and sister; Sharon Schuler.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Friday, October 9, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Easton, KS. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorials in honor of Mr. Schuler are suggested to AA, Trinity Lutheran School Grant Fund or American Diabetes Association and may be left in care of the funeral home.
