John Mason Eveland - obituary

John Mason Eveland was born in Fulton County, Ill., on Dec. 9, 1851, and passed away at Mercy Hospital in Waverly on Sunday afternoon, September 14.

With his parents, Henry and Orena Eveland, he came to Iowa during the summer of 1854, making the trip in a covered wagon. That was seventy-six years ago, and this has been his home ever since.

The Eveland family was among the best known of the early pioneer families, and a goodly number of their descendants still reside in this locality.

John Eveland received his education in the schools of Bremer County, and after he had grown to manhood he followed the avocation of farming.

In the year 1882 he was united in marriage with Miss Lina Cronk, who also was a member of a pioneer family, but she has long since preceded him in death.

The deceased had four sisters and one brother, but only the brother – James D. Eveland, who has been residing at Ames—survives him. The sisters have preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon from the Koch funeral chapel, Rev. E. E. Tiedt, pastor of the local Baptist church, officiating. Burial was in the family lot in Harlington Cemetery.
