Harrison Abeling, was born in Canajoharie.
He joined the 153rd Regiment, N. Y. Vols., and served through the war. He was 21 when he enlisted in Canajoharie, New York to serve three years in the 153rd New York Infantry on 31 August 1862. Mustered into Co. F as a private on 187 October 1862. Promoted corporal on 3 September 1865. Mustered out at Savannah, Georgia on 2 October 1865 with his company.
One adopted daughter, Mrs. F. W. Hammersmith; one sister, Mrs. John Zwank; and nine brothers, William J., Henry, Charles, Robert, Orlando, Andrew, John, Lewis and George.
