On March 1, 1861, he enlisted as a 2nd Lieut., Company A, Tenth Mississippi Volunteers Infantry, Confederate States Army.
On September 1, 1864, he was wounded at Franklin, Tennessee.

Age 84 years, 3 months, 5 days. Buried December 5, 1924.

He was the son of Joseph W. Fite and Margaret Beasley Fite.
On January 6, 1869 as John Wesley Fite, he married Amanda Donnell in Mississippi.
They were the parents of one child.

Funeral from Mount Pleasant Methodist Episcopal Church South on Friday, December 5 at 2PM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.

Captain John Wesley Fite, Confederate States Army, eldest child of Joseph Washington Fite and Margaret Isler Beasley, was born in Jackson, Mississippi, September 28, 1839. At the beginning of the Civil War he was elected Captain of Company D, Tenth Mississippi Volunteers; he led his Company from his native town and served with the Army of Tennessee in every engagement it fought. At one time his Company numbered 135; at this writing there are but six of the old Company alive. For the past twenty years Captain Fite has been in the Government Service in the Treasury Department, at Washington. January 6, 1869, Captain John Wesley Fite was married to Amanda Donnell, born 1843; died February 19, 1899, daughter of William Harvey Donnell and Susan Benthall, who had moved from Tennessee to Jackson, Mississippi about 1835.
