Billie Black, Sr., 80, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at his home in Jena.
He was born June 9, 1929, to the union of his parents, Troy Troice and Valla Edith Black.
Mr. Black was retired as the Production Foreman for Hunt Petroleum where he worked for 37½ years. He was in the U.S. Navy for three and one-half years.
He loved hunting, fishing (especially Ocean and Deep Sea), and woodworking. He was a devoted member of East Jena Baptist Church where he was actively involved in the construction of the new church sanctuary. Also, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 25, at East Jena Baptist Church with the Revs. Craig James and William O'Neal officiating.
Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.
His parents and a brother, James Black, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years and nine months, Nell Black of Jena; two sons, Billie Black, Jr. and wife Amanda of Beaumont, TX and Keith Black and wife Barbara of Monroe; one daughter, Judy Springer and husband Billy Ray of Kensington, OH; six grandchildren, Jason Black and wife Mandi, Alison Williams and husband Todd, Jennifer Ayres and husband Jason, Christopher Black, Lindsay Black, and Justin Black; and seven great grandchildren, Morgan, Briar, Andrew, Adam, Callie, Caleb, and Maya.
Pallbearers were Jack Hampton, Herman Murphy, Larry Ainsworth, Johnny Hutchins, Burl Clark, and Wayne Davis.
