James Walter Rider, M.D., of Atchison, KS, 61, passed away on September 8, 2009. He was the son of Clifford M. and Lena Mae Moore Rider. He attended schools in Kansas City, MO, graduating from Van Horn High School, then attending and graduating from University of Missouri Kansas City and then graduating from UMC Medical School. Dr. Rider then served his residency at Creighton Hospital, Omaha, NE.
James Walter Rider, M.D. is survived by two sisters, Patricia and her husband Gary Ross, Parkville, MO, & Lois Martin, Mt. Laurel, NJ; three nieces, a nephew, several great nieces & nephews, along with his great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford M. and Lena Mae (Moore) Rider.
Dr. Rider came to Atchison, KS in 1975 and began serving as the Chief of Staff at the Atchison Hospital. He then moved to Horton, KS, where he opened a medical practice and later returned to Atchison continuing with a medical practice in Atchison until his untimely death.
He was a member of the Scottish Rite of the Masons, loved collecting and viewing older movies and the music that accompanied them. Jim was well known as a trivia buff and was able to provide information on numerous subjects without hesitation.
Services to be held on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 11: am at First Christian Church with Rev. Lee Hendon officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation with the family will precede the services from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Monday at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to Boy Scouts of America and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, 208 N. 5th Street, Atchison, KS 66002.
