Services to be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 | 10:30 am


At Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Gerard Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish and Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited on Monday, August 24th at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation with the family to follow until 8:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to Sacred Heart Church or Mt. Calvary Cemetery Road Fund, Maur Hill-Mount Academy School or Atchison Catholic Elementary School and may be left in care of the funeral home. His wife, Roberta, of the home in Atchison, five daughters, Karen and husband, Doug Schultz, St. Joseph, MO, Kathy Kohler, Plainwell, MI, Kim and her husband, Gary Lewman, Atchison, KS, Debbie and her husband, Brick Rigden, Parkville, MO, Denise Saragusa, Atchison, KS, a son, Mark Wolters, Atchison, KS, five sisters, Margaret Mary Johannes, Kansas City, MO, Geraldine Greene, Salina, KS, Catherine Lahey, Colorado Springs, CO, Theresa Miller, Atchison, KS, Sister Dorothy Wolters, OSB, Atchison, KS, three brothers, John Wolters, Omaha, NE, Mike Wolters, Parkville, MO, Bill Wolters, Atchison, KS, and eleven grandchildren.


Phil was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Jessica Kohler and Nicole Allison and two brothers, Francis Wolters and Tom Wolters.

Philip was born in Atchison, Kansas the son of William H. and Catherine Duncan Wolters. He attended St. Benedict's Elementary School, graduating from Maur Hill Prep School in 1947. He then attended St. Benedict's College now Benedictine College.

He and the former Roberta J. Besette were united in marriage on October 25, 1958 at St. Benedict's Church, Atchison.

He served with the United States Army and was stationed in Germany until his discharge when he returned to Atchison, Kansas.

Phil began his employment with the Midwest Solvents Company where he served from 1949 until his retirement in 1991 as Vice-President from Midwest Grain Products Company of Atchison, Kansas.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus Council #723, served on the board of directors of Atchison Chamber of Commerce, YMCA of Atchison and Bellevue Country Club and served as president for two years of the Distillers Feed Research Council. He was a member of Atchison Elks Club, Fellowship Club, VFW Post #1175, Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion, divided much of his spare time traveling on fishing trips to Canada and spending time on the golf course. His greatest enjoyment was the time he spent with his grandchildren, tending his garden and working in his yard.
