William Marion Roddy was born a son of John and Mary Roddy in Tennessee 1801 or 1802 ... although there are contradictory claims in the electronic record, he was most certainly married at least twice. The first marriage reportedly being to Martha Childress (or perhaps Childers)for which (according to some family sources) vows were exchanged on January 15, 1822, in Knox County, Tennessee. Vows were exchanged with Mary (maiden name uncertain) in the second marriage before the 1850 U S Census, possibly in Walker County, Georgia; but the exact time and place is not known.

William Roddy is known to have fathered the following named children:

John Henry (1823 ... Tenn)
Malinda (1824 ... Tenn)
Eliza (1826 ... Tenn)
Alexander (1828 ... Tenn)
Margaret (1831 ... Tenn)
Samuel Cowan (1833 ... Tenn)
Polly Adeline (1835 ... Tenn)
James (1836 ... Tenn)
William M (1838 ... Georgia)
Blackburn (1841 ... Georgia)
Sarah C (1845 ... Georgia)
Frances J (1847 ... Georgia)
Emily (1849 ... Georgia)

Therefore, it may be concluded that William moved his family from Tennessee to Georgia in about 1837; but it is not yet known precisely which children were Martha's and which children might have been Mary's.

William and Mary Roddy were counted in the Taylors Ridge Valley of Walker County, Georgia, during the 1850 U S Census; but no listing has yet been found in the 1860 U S Census. By the time the 1870 U S Census was recorded, William and Mary are found in Catoosa County, Georgia, where they apparently lived until William's death in about 1878.
