Dee worked as a seamstress and for several dry cleaners in the Topeka, Kansas area prior to opening her own business Dee's Arts and Crafts which she operated with her husband for many years.
She married Leo E. Gutierrez on November 21, 1948 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He proceeded her in death on June 11, 1992. She was also proceeded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jeanette Bowhser and Beulah "Bam" Euken; four brothers, Sandy, Lucian, Lowell and Henry "Hank" McKinney and three great grandchildren.
Dee was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe, Pottawatomie Tribe, St. Leo's Catholic Church, Lion's Club, VFW Auxiliary, Allied Tribes of Shawnee County, Indian clubs in Kansas City, Lawrence, Topeka, Kansas. She will be remembered for her style of dancing in which she received several awards at area Pow-wows.
Survivors include five daughters, Maria Gutierrez of Billings, Montana, Leandra Gutierrez of the home, Horton, Kansas, Barbara Aaron of Leavenworth, Kansas, Christy Gutierrez of Topeka, Kansas and Toni Gutierrez of Horton, Kansas; three sons, Paul Gutierrez of Lawrence Kansas, Villa Guterrez of Anchorage Alaska and John Gutierrez of the home, Horton, Kansas; two sisters, Gwen Burns and Itis Milton both of Horton, Kansas; three brothers, Donald and Dwight McKinney of Horton, Kansas and Oran McKinney of Holt's Summit, Missouri and Dwight McKinney of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; twenty-five grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Monday, April 13, 2009 at the St. Leo's Church in Horton, Kansas. A prayer service will be recited at 6:00 pm on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas. Burial will at the Kennekuk Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation.
