He was a former football coach and high school principal in Arlington. He was superintendent of schools at Red Oak, Iraan, and O'Brien before moving to Lubbock in 1943. He instructed aviation cadets at Texas Texas from 1943 to 1945. He and Martha Elmina Marshall married on 10 March 1906 in Eastland County. Survivors include his wife; one son; three daughters; two brothers; seven grandchildren. Mr. Westerman was an elder emeritus at John Knox Presbyterian Church.
