From her obituary found in an 1878 copy of the Carthage Republican newspaper:

"Died at the residence of her son, David Hanson Esq., near Elvaston, Montebello township, Hanscoc County, Jan. 11, 1878, Mrs Barbary Hanson, aged 85 yrs., 5 months and 9 days. the deceased was born in Culpepper county, Virginia, Aug. 2nd, 1792. She was married June 9, 1814, and in company with her husband, in the fall of the same year moved to Pickaway County, Ohio, where they were permitted to enjoy the society and blessings of their family and many friends until separated by the death of her husband June 2, 1836. She was left with eight living children, three daughters and five sons in charge. In the fall of 1847 in company with part of her family she removed to this county where she resided until death. She has made her home with her son who together with his amiable wife, Mrs. Emma Hanson, deserve the praise and admiration of their relatives and friends for their untiring attention and efforts to alleviate the sufferings of their mother in her protracted affliction. She was a member of the M.E. church and for many years she made the Bable her devoted companion. She had a kind heart and cheerful disposition which drew many ?? and loving friends around her both aged and young, who will mourn her loss. There will be words of fond regret softly spoken of the kinds and gentle one who after a protracted affliction suddenly fell asleep. She was an affectionate mother but she is gone from the trials and tribulations of this sinful world. Farewell dear grandma..Farewell grandma; with teaful eyes and hearts bowed with grief we have laid you down to sleep in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Dear Mother thou hast left here. They loss we deeply felt But tis God that has bereft us. He can all our sorrows heal." The "farewell" said grandma in the obituary. Her tombstone has this same "farewell" message but mother is shown in lieu os grandma.
