William (Bill) Caldwell, 74, of Laurel, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday at Lebanon Baptist Church in Jones County, with burial in the church cemetery. The Revs. Harold Floyd, Jimmy Holder and Denny Patterson will officiate. He was retired embalmer and funeral director with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, with 30 years of service. He received a 50-year certificate as a licensed embalmer, from 1952 until 2001. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church, the American Legion, Marvin E. Stainton Post #11, 40 et8 Voiture Local #297, O.D. Smith Masonic Lodge #33, Oxford, Scottish Rites, 32nd degree, New Orleans, La., Shriner Hamassa Temple, Meridian. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anita Ayles Caldwell; one son and daughter-in-law, William (Billy) Caldwell, Jr. and his wife, Pina, of Laurel; two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen C. Townsend and her husband, Chris, of Ellisville, Wanda C. Johnson of Laurel; six grandchildren, Scott Posey, Wendy P. Cockrell, Brian Johnson, Chenae Hilbun, Katie Caldwell, and Sam Caldwell; one great-granddaughter, Tatum Cockrell, two great grandsons, Preston and Spencer Cockrell; two brothers, James D. Caldwell of Rome, Ga., and C. Wesley Caldwell of Natchez; one sister, Elizabeth C. Young of Oxford. The body will be placed in the church at 9 a.m. Friday. Pallbearers will be Robert Burkes, T. J. Burkes, Johnny Davis, Preston Roney, Charles Harper and Ted Cherry. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Lebanon Baptist Church Brotherhood. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., today at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel , which is in charge of arrangements.
