William married Margaret Gabbard, daughter of Michael and Elizabeth (Cundiff) Gabbard in Jackson, Breathitt County, Kentucky, April 26, 1894. They would spend the rest of their lives in Jackson.
They were the parents of eight daughters and one son:
Nelle J Haddix 1895 – 1974
Doshia Margaret "Dodie" Haddix 1897 – 1985
Artemesia Marie Haddix 1899 – 1918
Katherine "Kate, Kitty" Kimberlin 1901 – 1992
Florence Haddix 1903 – 1993
William P Haddix 1906 – 1926
Edna B Haddix 1908 – 1966
Elizabeth Colville Haddix 1909 – 1999
Arbutus Jane Haddix 1916 – 2002
William and his wife, Margaret Gabbard, owned and operated the Haddix Hotel in Jackson, Kentucky. The hotel was a boarding house, and my grandfather, Thomas Franklin Marshall, lived there while working for the railroad. My grandfather met and married their daughter, Nell, at the boarding house. Nell did most of the cooking.
William was a barber and was known as "Barber Bill" to his friends and customers. My grandfather told my dad, Gilbert S. Marshall, that folks would rather take a beating than get a shave from Barber Bill!
