While a student at Leaksville High School, she met James Francis Fagg, an accomplished baseball player. A few years later when she was a student at Radford College, they eloped and married in Washington, DC, on October 3, 1932. She did not work outside the home, but all her life she was active in church and community affairs.
After marrying, the couple lived in Washington, DC, and in Richmond, Petersburg, and South Hill, VA, before settling in Roanoke, VA in 1947. They had 3 children. In 1966, they returned to Richmond, where they lived until Francis's death in 1975. Shortly afterwards, she returned to Roanoke to be closer to her children. She died in 1989.
