According to the Portland Valley Scottish Rite of Freemasonry History 1992; Joseph Allen Strowbridge was a 32nd Degree Freemason & early Oregon Pioneer, Born December 1st, 1835 in Pennsylvania; moved to Oregon October 3rd, 1852; died June 30, 1903. He was the trustee of a bridge to be built across the Willamette river at the foot of Columbia Street; active in the Portland Mechanics Fair in 1880 and 1888; involved as a donor to fund to deepen the Willamette River Channel below Portland; donated to the fund to maintain and increase the West Side Railroad; one of the original stock-holders of the Lone Fir Cemetery Company.(Where his grave is located) In 1853 he was employed in a hotel in Oregon City; later that year he commenced purchase and shipping of eggs, butter and apples to San Francisco and was in this 'commission business' until 1860 when he became a partner of C.M. Wiberg in a boot and shoe business; finally built and owned several business blocks in Portland. He was immortalized in a stained glass window created by the Povey Brothers Stained Glass studio at the Portland Valley Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Temple in downtown Portland.
