Adeline Roberta McKinney Hatcher, 80, of Jacksonville, FL passed away Monday June 8, 2009 at her residence in Atlantic Beach, FL.

She was born in Blackshear March 23, 1929. She was the younger of two children born to Adeline Rankin McKinney and Eustace James McKinney. Her family moved to Jacksonville and she graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. She then went to Georgia State College for Women where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in music, followed by a Master of Arts in music from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. At Georgia State she was a member of the A Capella Choir directed by Max Noah, and after graduation lead the choir while Dr. Noah took a year's sabbatical.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary Anne McKinney Hatcher and Jesus Flores.

She spent her life dedicated to teaching, developing music teaching material (most of you probably learned elementary school music from her "World Of Music"). Authoring and later editing led her first to Atlanta and then on to New York City where she founded Ensemble Productions, a service company to all the major music textbook publishers. In New York, she was also a faithful member of the choir at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church. She returned to her home in Atlantic Beach in the early 1990s and married William Hatcher. Since her return to Atlantic Beach, she had been very active in both music and her church, Community Presbyterian Church. There she worked in the church office; was an elder; Bible study leader; frequent soloist; and leader of Ageless Wonders, a senior fellowship group. She was an Honorary Life Member of Presbyterian Women. She also served on the Camps and Conferences Committee of the Presbytery of St. Augustine where she chaired the Senior Adult Ministry for many years. She received the Lightbearer Award for community service. She was very active at Mission House, where she also served on the Board.

A memorial service took place at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 from the Community Presbyterian Church.

Interment followed Thursday, June 11 at Blackshear City Cemetery with a private graveside ceremony led by the Rev. Allan Jump.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations be made to:
