Death Of Mrs. Nellie Cook
Mrs. Nellie B. Cook, an old and highly esteemed resident of Kickapoo, died last Wednesday [Jul 26] following an operation for gall stones. She was 61 years of age and was born on the old Spencer homestead just east of Atchison in Buchanan county, Mo., being a daughter of Martin Spencer, a prominent pioneer of that section. She moved to the Kansas side of the river with her parents when 14 years of age.
Her husband, Robert Cook, died many years ago and she has since shown remarkable ability in managing a large farm near Kickapoo.
One of her brothers is Judge O.M. Spencer, the prominent attorney of St. Joe, and another is Drake Spencer of Leavenworth county. She also leaves one daughter and two sons, John and Robt. Cook and Mrs. Walter Scruggs, of Kickapoo. Interment was in Kickapoo cemetery Friday [Jul 28].
