John W. Baker of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at his residence. Born on April 7, 1929, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of John L. and Catherine M. (Davis) Baker. He married Marie Craig on May 5, 1959, and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Christopher W. Baker of Bedford, IN, and John Eric Baker of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, Karen Baker of Superior, CO; two sisters, Phyllis Thompson of Powell, WY, and Cathy Steward of Sparks, NV; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a layout inspector for GM Powertrain, retiring after 43 years of service, and was a Korean War Army veteran. He was a member of UAW Local 440 and the Dive Christian Church.

Services for John Baker will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 18th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by American Legion Gillen Post #33.
