Rev. Henry Herman Pittman, Sr., 79, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009, at the South Georgia Medical Center, of Valdosta.
Rev. Pittman was born March 29, 1930 in Clinch County, to the late Samuel Floyd Pittman and Viola Howling Pittman. He was employed by Union Camp/ International as a woodsman. He was a member of the New Vision Church of God and preached at the nursing home until 2003. He was a Veteran of the US Army. Rev. Pittman was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Pittman; two granddaughters, Dianne Counts, and Brandy Graham; a grandson, Bartley White; a great-grandson, Earnest Counts; and a brother, Elmer Pittman.
Survivors are his wife, Evelyn Juanita G. Pittman of Homerville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Thelma "Ricky" and Randall White, Faye and Andy Hendricks all of Homerville, Deborah and Charles Weatherly of Newberry, S.C.; three step-daughters and step-sons-in-law, Delores and Jim Lee of Homerville, Donna and Virgel Sears of Davenport, Fla., Linda and Sheldon Hartley of Argyle; a son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Beth Pittman, Jr. of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; two-step-sons and a step-daughter-in-law, Sean Arnold of Homerville, Mike and Tori Arnold of Angelton, Texas; a sister, Thelma Miller of Paducha, Ky.; four brothers, Eddie Pittman, Samuel Pittman, Ira Pittman, and James Pittman, all of Homerville; 26 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.
Services for Rev. Pittman were held Thursday, April 9, 2009 at p.m. from the New Vision Church of God.
Officiating was Rev. David L. Vanoy and Rev. Jerry Baldree.
Internment followed in the Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Sam Hendricks, Bennie White, Travis Guess, Scott Touchton, Brock Wilson and David Steedley.
Honorary pallbearers were Paul McCoy, Ray Young, Emory Boyd, Larry Chambless, Roger Merritt, and New Vision's Adult Sunday School Class.
W.G. Smith sang "Beulah Land" and Nathan Guess sang "He Could Walk on Water".
