He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Billie Jean Raikes Ries; children, Donna Bucher and her husband David of Troy, Ohio; Judy Hailey and her husband Don of Murfreesboro, and Carmin Arnold and her husband Troy of Smyrna; sister, Carolyn Kay Clark of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Thomas Bucher, Sara Bucher, Ryan Hailey, Evan Hailey; four nieces and one nephew; Bro-In-Law, Robert (Bud) and Margaret Raikes of Smyrna.
Don Ries was known for his humor and ability to share laughter, his willingness to help others, and leaves behind a multitude of numerous friends and family members. Don was born on May 26, 1931 in St. Louis, Michigan and was of the Methodist faith. He came to Smyrna in 1950 being stationed at Sewart Air Force Base. He retired from the Smyrna Post Office in 1986 after 30 years of service. Don saw many changes in the Town of Smyrna. His original walking mail route was one of two that served the entire town in the 1950's. He was a charter member of the Smyrna Rescue Squad and former member of the Smyrna Volunteer Fire Department, Auxiliary Police, CB Radio Club and Smyrna Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Phyllis Ries. Active pallbearers will be Larry Lee, Gerald Lee, Dick Johns, Roger Neal, Gene Bond and Steve Koehler. Honorary Pallbearers will be his friends and co-workers.
