George S. Potts, 76, (Capt., U.S. Air Force, retired), loving and devoted husband, dad, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed on to be with The Lord Friday, March 27, 2009, with family members by his bedside.

George was born June 20, 1932 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was born early as a 7 month baby weighing in at 2 lbs 2 oz. He spent most of his early years in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Crozier Tech High School, and was a member of the band and the ROTC.

George attend Baylor University where he played trumpet in the marching band, orchestra, and dance band, as well as participating in ROTC. Later he transferred to East Texas State University and earned a B.S. degree in 1954.

It was during his time at Baylor that George met and soon married his wife , Melba.

After graduation, George served as a Galveston police officer for 1 year and then was commissioned as second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for 20 years. Most of his career was an officer in the military police, serving in Japan, Germany, and several bases in the United States.

After retiring from the USAF as a Captain in 1975, George served 8 years as a 911 operator for the City of Austin.

George was always quick with a smile, joke, and hand shake, and even quicker with helping those about him; family, friends, and strangers alike.

In later years, he was particularly fond of playing his harmonica, especially calling up family members and friends on their birthdays to play the birthday song for them on the telephone. Most recently he especially enjoyed "jamming" at a nursing home with fellow harmonica players, son Ron, and grandson Spencer.

Ron Potts (George son) played the harmonica at the graveside. Jeremy Potts, (George grandson and Ron son), played Taps at the graveside.

But more than anything else, Dad cherished being close to and enjoying simple pleasures with his best buddy and companion, his wife of 55 years, Melba.

He is missed by all that knew and loved him, but celebrated for his life and where he is now in Glory.

Survivors, wife, Melba, son, Randy & wife, Susie, son, Ron & Christina, & daughter Sandy. Grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Christy, Jeremy, Tony, Spencer, Michael & Amber. Great grandchildren, Hana, Chloe, Avary & Sophie.
