Marcus Palmer Arnold was born on 3 Dec 1839 at Braintree, Massachusetts, son of John and Mehitable Allen (Holbrook) Arnold.

At the time of his enlistment, Marcus was living at Boston and gave his occupation as Bootmaker.

On 29 Oct 1862 Marcus P. Arnold mustered into service with the 1st Company Massachusetts Sharpshooters. He was 22 years, 10 months and 26 days old.

On 16 Feb 1864 Marcus reenlisted, having received a bounty of $325, and on 21 Oct 1864 he transferred from the 1st Massachusetts Sharpshooters to the 19th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, Company K.

He ended his service with the 19th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, Company K, by mustering out on 30 Jun 1865 at Munson's Hill, Virginia.

Later he lived in San Francisco with his brother and family, and Marcus worked as a letter carrier.

He died unmarried on 7 Feb 1881 at San Francisco, California. He was 41 years, 2 months and 4 days old.

Marcus was first interned at the Old Defunct Masonic Cemetery and later moved. (per #48480465)
According to "U.S., National Interment Control Forms, 1928-1962," Marcus was originally interred at the now defunct Odd Fellows Cemetery and reinterred 1 Jun 1932 in the San Francisco National Cemetery. per contributor: (47336803)
