Ernest Stallbaumer was born March 5, 1901, at Seneca, Ks, the son of John Martin and Louise Stallbaumer. He graduated from St. Mary's High School, at St. Benedict, and from St. Benedict's College, Atchison, Ks. He professed as a Benedictine, July 2, 1922 and was ordained a priest June 11, 1927, in Wichita, Ks. He did graduate studies at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and the University of Notre Dame. He served as professor of Greek studies at St. Benedict's College. Beginning in 1930 he served St. Benedict's parish, Kansas City, Kansas, St. John's parish, Burlington, Iowa; St. Peter's parish, Council Bluffs, Iowa (where he spent 14 years); and St. Benedict's parish, Atchison, Kansas. His last parish was St. Benedict's Church, Bendena, Kansas, when he was forced into retirement due to ill health, in July, 1970.
Father Ernest communicated to various congretations a love for liturgy and liturgical music before the liturgical movement came to its full strength. He was a well-loved pastor. Funeral services were held at the Abbey Church, December 4, 1971. He is buried in the Abbey cemetery, St. Benedict's Abbey, Atchison, KS.
