From the 14 Mar 1871 St Albans Daily Messenger:

“William Goff, one of the first settlers of Richford, and the oldest man in that town, died on the 5th inst. He was born in Sunderland, Mass., in 1783, and came to Richford in 1802. He was appointed captain of a volunteer company in 1814, to help repel the invaders at the battle of Plattsburgh. Mr. Goff was active in the promotion of every public enterprise.”
