Emma married James A. Wheatley in Lauderdale, Tennessee on November 18, 1868. Her parents were Stephen Smith Kirk and Delila Elizabeth Woodward Kirk.

She was the mother of the following children:

"Mrs. E. E. (Granny) Wheatley died at 11:59 p.m. January 19, at the home of her son Jack Wheatley, near Howard, where she had lived for the past twenty-four years.

Granny, as everyone knew her, was born November 30, 1849 in Carroll County, Tenn. She was the daughter of Delliah Kirk and Stephen Smith Kirk. She was the oldest of nine children. Her three sisters, Martha, Mandy and Jane; five brothers, Bob, John, Tate, (next line illegible) her in death.

Mrs. E. E. Wheatley was married to James A. Wheatley November 18, 1868. To this union were born seven children: S. R. Wheatley, twins, Dick and H. A. Wheatley, Jack Wheatley and one daughter, Mrs. Ida Roach. S. R. Wheatley, the oldest child died July 4, 1941 at Italy, Texas. Sally and Willie died at the age of four in Tennessee.

The Wheatley family came to Texas in December, 1892, and settled within one mile of where she died. Granny was a member of The Church of Christ, having been baptized in Foradierre(?spelling uncertain) River at Henderson, Tenn. by Bro. Inman in August 1887.

Granny was living in her ninety-third year having celebrated her ninety-second birthday with a dinner at her home on last Thanksgiving Day. She was able to tell many interesting stories about the Civil War. She rememberd very distinctly having heard the cannon roar during the battle of Shiloh. After the war her family was stripped of clothing and food by those who pilfered the immediate war zone after the battle.

She is to be laid to rest Tuesday afternoon in the Bardwell Cemetery. Brother L. S. White of (next two lines illegible) Church of Christ.

Pallbearers are her grandsons Pendell Wheatley, Buck Wheatley, Herbert Wheatley, A. R. Roach, J. E. Roach, and Loyd Curby, Clyde Johnson and Melvin Hitt.

Those who are in charge of the flowers are her granddaughters, Mrs. Loyd Curby, Ruth Roach, Alice Wheatley, Mrs. Clyde Johnson, Mrs. Helen Hitt, Mrs. Frankie Wheatley, Mrs. A. B. Roach, Mrs. J. E. Roach, Mrs. Buck Wheatley, Mrs. Herbert Wheatley."
