DR. JETER
Dr. James Neal Jeter, 53, 409 Riverview Circle, of Florence, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning at the Florence State Gymnasium.
A native of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, he had practiced medicine in Florence for the past 20 years.
He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee School of Medicine, had served as a Lt. Commander in the Navy during World War II, was president of Colonial Manor Hospital, was a member of the Lauderdale County Medical Society, and a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Jeter was a member of the Board of Directors at Security Federal Savings and Loan Association, vice president of the Florence Rotary Club, and a member of First Christian Church in Florence.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Morrison-Elkins Chapel, Florence, with Rev. Robert Stegall officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, Morrison-Elkins of Florence directing.
The body will remain at the funeral home until the funeral hour.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Alton Lynn Ellis, of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Allan Blackwood, of High Point, North Carolina, Mrs. Allen Spry, of Tokyo, Japan, Miss Kelly Jeter, of Florence; a son, James Neal Jeter, Jr., of Florence; his mother, Mrs. Viola Morrison Jeter, of Florence; a sister, Mrs. Frances McDonnell, of Florence; a brother, Dr. William C. Jeter, of Lawrenceburg; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dr. L. G. Doss, Dr. Harry Brown, Dr. Preston Trousdale, Dr. Lester Hibbett, Dr. John Hardiman, Herschel Brunch, Robert Kidd, and Joe Morrison.
