Connor Lee Deal, 12, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Amarillo South Church with Jimmy Adcox of Southwest Church of Christ in Jonesboro, Ark., officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Connor was born June 26, 1996, in Jonesboro to Ron and Nan Deal. The family has lived in the area for 2½ years and are members of Amarillo South Church. Conner attended Bonham Middle School, where he enjoyed learning; he loved literature and was especially fond of fiction books.

His lifelong dream included writing and directing movies. Because of his love for "Star Wars," he wanted to be the next George Lucas and continue the "Star Wars" series. A creative writer, he had already crafted many chapters for the movie scripts. Teachers commented that he was a gifted and talented student and musician. As a hobby, Connor collected and built extravagant Legos. Connor was often described as a humble and kind child with a sweet, gentle spirit. He was sure of himself and completely comfortable with who he was and who he wanted to be. In general, Connor was a quiet person and was very loyal to his dear friends who were his age. Other dearly loved friends include church families from Jonesboro and Amarillo and his Faith Camp friends. A compassionate child, Connor loved his family and his church. He enjoyed spending time with his brothers, serving on the kids praise team or helping to rock babies in the church nursery. He loved the family's two dogs, Maddie and Indy.

He was preceded in death by an aunt, Joanne Mackey of Springfield, Mo.

Survivors include his parents, Ron and Nan Deal; two brothers, Braden and Brennan Deal, both of Amarillo; his grandparents, Virgil and Jean Mackey of Springfield and Lloyd and Barbara Deal of Oklahoma City; an aunt, Jill Colony and husband Bruce and their son, Ian, of Springfield; an uncle, Larry Deal and wife Leslie and their children, Luke Deal and wife Kara and daughter Lily of Amarillo, Eric Deal of York, Neb., Danielle Deal of Columbus, Neb., and Leah Goodwin and husband Ryan of McCord, Saskatchewan; an aunt, Cherilyn McAllister and husband Kent of Kansas City, Mo., and their children, Cole McAllister and wife London of Oklahoma City, and Blake McAllister and Brooke McAllister, both of Kansas City; an uncle, Roger Deal and wife Cheryle and their children, Philip Deal, Saleena Deal, Madison Deal, Kamiryn Deal and Carissa Deal, all of Columbus; and two dogs, Maddie and Indy.
