HOT ROD DRIVER BLAMED FOR CRASH KILLING 6 PERSONS.
Morgantown, W. Va., April 24 -- Recklessness on the part of a "hot rod" driver was blamed today for the wreck that killed him and five other persons when two autos collided 14 miles south of here Saturday night.
State Trooper L. V. Minnick said 24-year-old M. D. GROVES of Morgantown was driving his "souped-up" vehicle about a foot and a half crosss the white line on U.S. Route 119 when it rammed into a Grafton-bound car in which six persons were riding.
Five of the six, including four members of a Fairmont family, died and the other was critically injured.
The victims were HAROLD F. BROWN, 49; his wife, MRS. LEONA BROWN, 52; their blind daughter CATHERINE BROWN, 27, and 10-year-old son NOBLE; and MRS. BROWN'S father, EDWIN N. LOCK, 80, of Grafton. GROVES and BROWN died shortly after being admitted to a Morgantown hospital, the others were killed almost instantly.
Combined rites for the BROWNS will be held tomorrow at Fairmont.
Reported improving from injuries suffered in the collision was J. L. A. HUGELL, 72, of Grafton.
MISS BROWN, popular hymn singer in the Fairmont -- Morgantown area, had been given an audition earlier Saturday here for a part in a minstrel show.
