Mr. Ray Prather, 84, of Meridian, died Friday, December 26, 2008 at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Prather was employed with MS Power/ Plant Sweatt for 30 years. He was an Army Veteran, member of Popular Springs Baptist Church, and IBEW Member. Mr. Prather was a member of Masonic Lodge #507 and owner of Prather Appliance Service for 45 years. He will be remembered as a man who loved his family and always made sure they were taken care of. He always had a smile on his face. He was a very giving man who never met a stranger and had many close and lifelong friends. He had a servant's heart.
Survivors include his Wife, Muriel Moorman Prather of Meridian; Daughter, Carol Prather Sparks of Meridian; Son, David Paul Prather and wife Pamela of Meridian; Daughter-in-law, Pamela Wadsworth Prather of Meridian; Sister-in-law, Velma Prather of Baldwyn, MS; Grandson, Christopher Lee Cornett and wife Tammy of Bailey, MS; Granddaughter, Keating Elizabeth Prather of Meridian; Great Grand Daughter, Olivia Grace Cornett of Meridian; Great Grandson, Cooper Hayes Cornett of Meridian. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J. M. "Boss" Prather and Louise Waldron Prather. Brothers, Bill, J. W., and Carlton Prather. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jimmie Kent.
Pallbearers will be Tim Dillard, Grover Eakes , Raymond Pugh, Joe Price, Jack McMullen, Mike Hall, Robert Brand, and Ed Owen. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ira Edwin Owen, Kenneth Jones, Gerald Crawford, Earl Hover, Jack Moorman, Bud Nixon, Phil Davis, Bernice Davis, and Dr. Jim Gleaves.
The family request memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or Lauderdale United Methodist Church Mission Fund, P.O. Box 67 Lauderdale, MS 39335; or a charity of your choice.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, December 28th, 2008 from 4pm to 7 pm at James F. Webb Funeral Home, 2514 7th Street, Meridian, MS.
