Per Mamie Yeary in Reminiscences of the Boys in Grey 1861-1865
Born in Glass County, KY. Enlisted in the Confederate Army 1862 in Capt Cooper's Company, General Tom Green's Brigade, Gen Walkers Division. A member of Terrys Rangers. married in Tom Green County-Miss Martha Jane Caudle. Member of the Colorado-Concho Reunion Association.

E. Boswell rewrote Miss Yeary's stories in a book called Texas Boys in Gray. This is Mr. Arnold's account of his hearing loss due to loud guns of Civil War.
Battle of Mansfield: My hearing was affected greatly during the war on account of being so near the cannon, I was with a company of 203 men, and when we went into battle we were formed near the artillery in order to keep the enemy from getting the cannon. A cannon discharged so near me once that the drums of my ears were shattered so badly that the blood ran from them, and I have never been able to hear an ordinary conversation since.
