Mary Ann (Ryan) Bennett, one of a family with a record of long lives, turned 100 years old today with the occasion marked by a family celebration at Forest Park Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Bennett was born Sept. 9, 1883, in Warren, one of 11 children of Thomas and Anna (Horoho) Ryan, and lived in Kokomo all of her life. While she is the first to reach 100, sister Teresa lived to be 87 and her father lived to be 92. Sister Madge died at age 94 while sisters Kathryn and Nellie lived to be 96 and their mother died at 99.
Brother John E. Ryan, 97, and another sister, Mrs. Emil (Agnes) Beaver, 94, joined in today's celebration along with Mrs. Bennett's two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Lenore) Jansen of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Jack (Betty Grace) Taffe of Kokomo. Several grandchildren and a niece also attended.
Mary Ann Ryan married Claude T. Bennett Nov. 25, 1908, in St. Patrick's Church here. They owned and operated Bennett's Billiards on the corner of Union and Sycamore streets and at 213 N. Main St.
After her husband's death Oct. 5, 1952, Mrs. Bennett managed and (....copy of article ends).
Mary died at the age of 101 years, 12 days. She is buried next to Claude, who died October 5, 1952, at Crown Point Cemetery, Kokomo.
