Aleta Marie Kern, 87, of 611 Highland Street, Benton, died at 2:19 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2003 at Memorial Hospital, Carbondale.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, with Rev. Tony Auxier officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kern was born December 26, 1915 in Franklin County the daughter of John Riley and Daisy Jane (Barnfield) Overturf. She married Darrell Blake Kern and he preceded her in death on December 6, 1985. Mrs. Kern owned and operated the Benton Cafe for over thirty years. She was a member of the North Benton Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Kimberly K. Kern, Benton, three great-granddaughters, Aisha Goessman, Kailee Swalls, and Taigan Neibch, all of Benton, a daughter-in-law, Kay Kern, Benton, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Blake Kern, and four brothers and sisters.
