David attended Lubbock High School and graduated in 1964. He served in the Persian Gulf for the US Navy from 1964 until 1968. David married Linda Reid on February 17, 1979 in Lubbock. He worked as a financial courier until his retirement in 2007. David was a huge sports fan, especially for Texas Tech University, Dallas Cowboys, and the New England Patriots. He was a member of the Lubbock Bowling Association and was an excellent bowler. David was a wonderful husband, father, and "Pops".
Those left to cherish David's memory are his wife, Linda; mother, Joyce Lovelace and stepfather Bob, both of Lubbock; three daughters, Angela Gonzalez of Lubbock; Jody Lynn McNelly and Denise Rhea, both of Boston, Mass.; and Joe David West of Boston; two special grandchildren, Alicia and Ethan Gonzalez of Lubbock, as well as seven other grandchildren that reside in Boston; one sister, Shirley Schleuse of Lubbock; and one brother, C. W. McNelly of Lubbock.
David was preceded in death by his father, J. D. McNelly, and his grandparents.
Formal visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 24, 2008 at White Funeral Home in Lubbock. Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2008 at White Memorial Chapel in Lubbock with John Cooper, his cousin, and Jerry Johnson, his uncle, officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow.
In lieu of flowers, family would like memorials to be made to the American Cancer Society, 3411 73rd Street, Lubbock, Tx 79423, or the charity of donor's choice.
