Virginia Ardella Hansen Butler, age 80, died December 10, 1994 in Salt Lake City, Utah after a long illness of Alzheimer's disease.
Ardella was born January 4, 1914 in Payson, Utah, the daughter of James Nathaniel Hansen (2D40-DC) and Sarah Amanda Manwill (IP38-3D). She married LeRoy Schaughaard of Koosharem, Utah on November 2, 1931. She married William (Bill) Arville Butler in Spring Lake, Utah, June 28, 1941, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. Survived by daughter, Nina Butler, of Murray, Utah; sons, Don Butler (Lisa), Fairbanks, Alaska; William Ray Butler (Vicki) Bakersfield, Calif.; and Sheldon Butler (Linda), Salt Lake City, Utah; 25 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Arville Butler, May 18, 1955 and her daughter, Verleene Thurman of Magna, Utah, November 26, 1991.
Ardella spent her youth in Payson, Utah. After marrying Bill she moved to Salt Lake City. They lived in Salt Lake City, South Salt Lake (33rd and 10th West) and 325 Anderson Ave. in Murray. Ardella moved to 749 Bryan Ave. in 1970. She was employed as a nurse's aide at Holy Cross Hospital until her retirement. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many positions in the church during her life, her favorite being in the Primary. The past many years she has spent in the loving care of Mary Jo Ricks, being unable to care for herself.
Ardella loved little children, and relished telling them stories, playing with them and sharing experiences with them. She was an avid gardener, pleasing all with her ability to grow and maintain flowers, vegetables, and other delights. She struggled with a difficult life, and in so doing left a legacy of hard work and determination.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Kelly Butler, Scott Valenzuela, David Butler, Jeremy Edwards, Trent Butler, Mike Butler, and Troy Butler.
Friends may call upon the family at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State St., Murray, Utah, December 12, 1994 from 5-9 p.m. Graveside services will be December 13, 1994 at 10 a.m. in the Payson City Cemetery.
