Evelyn and her husband Vern had two children, Jack and Mary Sue.

Vern worked for the FAA in Talkeetna, Alaska, a small, cold, remote mining community on the Susitna River.

During WWII Evelyn became a radio operator, a skill necessary for the war effort, which placed them in the extreme northwest area of Alaska. After the war they settled in Anchorage, where they became members of the Bahá'í Faith. Evelyn was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of Alaska for 10 years, 7 of those as secretary.

The Huffmans donated 3 acres of their homestead property as a Temple site. In 1963 Evelyn was a delegate to the first International Convention for the election of the Universal House of Justice. In 1965, the Huffmans pioneered to Prince of Wales Island, one of the 5 virgin goals assigned to Alaska. The couple were dearly loved by the Tlingit Indians of the island. Verne passed away in 1974 on the island. In 1975 Evelyn served for a year at the Bahá'í World Centre in Haifa, Israel. Shortly after returning to Alaska, Evelyn passed away after suffering a heart attack.
