Inez T. Compton, born July 17, 1916, at the age of 87 years has gone to be with her Lord on June 22, 2004. A member of First Baptist Church in Hope, Ark., she was a retired executive secretary of American Legion Auxiliary, Arkansas Girls? State, and Arkansas Child Welfare for over 50 years.

Her sisters, Mildred Shipp and Ima Jean White, both of Hope, Ark., preceded her in death. Survivors include her sister, Floice Taylor of Hope, Ark.; brothers, Waymond Taylor and his wife, Mavis of Hope, Ark., Raymond Taylor of Fritch, Texas, and William "Bill" Taylor and his wife, Joyce of Highlands, Texas; brother-in-law, Hulan White; son, William "Bill" Compton and his wife, Redona of Beaumont, Texas; grandsons, Michael T. Compton of Bella Vista, Ark., and Jay Compton of Collierville, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren.

My mother enjoyed working with people and her life was the Auxiliary, Girls? State, and especially helping our veterans and their families. She always put the needs of others first. She always put me first also. She developed Alzheimer?s in 1996.

Mother's Day 2004 was the last day she really knew me. Her last words were, "I love you more than anything." And she did. She will always be a great mom and lady.

Interment was held in Memory Gardens, Hope, Ark., on Monday, June 28.
