A memorial service for Norman T. Bjortomt will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston, with the Rev. James Rushton officiating. The body has been cremated. Burial of his ashes will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Preston.

Mr. Bjortomt, 80, of Preston, died Sunday (Sept. 7, 2008) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Born Aug. 6, 1928, in the Westcoy Valley area of Winona County, he attended country school in the Scotland area, rural Preston/Harmony, and then Harmony High School. He worked on the family farm for a number of years, and for road construction contractors for 51 years.

For many years, Mr. Bjortomt resided with his sister and brother-in-law in rural Preston. He moved to Chosen Valley Assisted Living in 2005. A member of Pheasants Forever, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and family.

He is survived by two sisters, Verna Hahn of Zumbrota and Betty (Donald) Riehl of Preston; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Alma (Osterhus) Bjortomt; two sisters and a brother.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at Thauwald Funeral Home.
