Milly married William Ensley Howard Sr. on November 24, 1852 in Blount County, Tennessee. They belonged to the local Quaker Friends Church in Friendsville.

Millie's husband was a blacksmith, died circa 1877 as a result of an injury while working. She and the younger children moved from Unitia, Loudon County, Tennessee to Trion, Chattooga County, Georgia where some found work in the cotton mills. Her oldest, son James went to Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas in 1899 with his family where he owned and operated Howard and Sons Blacksmith Shop, continuing the family blacksmith business for four generations.
