EX-MAYOR DIES; RITES SET MONDAY
Services for a former mayor of Battle Creek, Leonard Dufphey, 79, will be Monday, 2p.m., at Steffen Mortuary in Battle Creek. The Rev. Donald Williams will officiate and burial will be in Osborn Cemetery south of Battle Creek.
The body will lie in state Sunday, 3-9 p.m. at the mortuary.
He was born Nov. 15, 1896, at Battle Creek, where he attended school and later was graduated from an Omaha barber's college. He practiced his tonsorial profession at Tilden, Norfolk and Battle Creek since 1928. In 1921, he was married to Loretto McKenna. He had been a member of the Battle Creek Village Board, the park board and was mayor. He also belonged to the Battle Creek Lions Club. He died Friday in a Norfolk hospital.
Surviving are his widow, one son, Dan of Salt Lake City, Utah; one daughter, Mrs. John(Lorraye) McCarthy of Norfolk; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, one great granddaughter and his parents.
