Bessie L. Diede, 96, a former pioneer Entiat Valley resident, died Friday, August 8, 2003 at Wenatchee, WA. She was born June 13, 1907 at Malaga, WA to Fred and Bessie Lynch (Cannon) Hanan. Bessie moved with her family to Entiat when she was 3 years old and grew up and attended schools there.

In 1925, she married Al Asher at Entiat and to this union 6 children were born. They lived on the family farm and for 28 years she packed apples. Mr. Asher preceded her in death on September 13, 1971. In September 1974, she married John Diede Sr. at Lewiston, ID.

Bessie was a member of the Senior Citizens where she recycled cards for several years, the Pioneer Ladies, and a former member of the Entiat Federated Church. She always had a smile and a cheerful greeting for everyone.

Survivors include two sons, John "Jack" (Rowena) Asher of Entiat and Charles "Chuck" (Lena) of Wenatchee; four daughters, Clarice (Bill) Koontz of Lewiston, ID, Joan (Gene) Zanol of Wenatchee, Kay Asher of Boise, ID and Janice (Gene) Wilson of East Wenatchee; 15 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 husbands and a grandson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday afternoon, August 13, 2003 in the Colonial Chapel of the Jones and Jones Funeral Home. Funeral services have been entrusted to the Jones and Jones Funeral Home.
