He married Mary Frances Prevatte on June 28, 1930. They had 3 children; Billy Hugh born in 1935, Arthur Richard born in 1940 and Eva Carol born in 1945.
He owned and operated a small auto repair shop in Lumberton where he continued to work until the day he died. He was an active member of Back Swamp Baptist Church.
