Gene F. Bater

Brockport: April 16, 2009.

Gene F. Bater, 81, died in hospice care at Lakeside Memorial Hospital. Until his recent hospitalization, he resided in the Alzheimer's memory care unit at The Landing.

Gene, the son of Floyd W. and Ethel (Boldt) Bater, was born September 28, 1927 in Stafford, NY.

After leaving the farm he served in the US Army, stationed in Michigan. He ran pea combine crews for Curtice-Burns (Pro-Fac Cooperative) in the summer while employed the rest of the year as a bus driver for Churchville-Chili Central Schools. He spent the second half of his career procuring maintenance equipment and supplies for the Greece Central Schools. He had also worked as a carpenter, even building his own home which he lived in for four decades.

Gene, an occasional hunter in his early years and an avid vegetable gardener later, loved a good cup of coffee.

He leaves ...

his wife of 54 years, Mary-Louise (Arnold) Bater,

his daughter Jennifer N. Bater,

his son Andrew L. Bater, daughter-in-law Christina,

and his granddaughter Lindsay Huntsman.

Eleanor Bater, his sister-in-law, and many nieces and a nephew survive.

His brother, Ronald, and sisters, Patricia and Joan predeceased him.

His body has been donated to the University of Rochester Medical Center Anatomical Gift Program.
