Dr. Charles C. Snowden, ninety-two, Davenport, oldest practicing physician in Nebraska until his recent illness, died in a Lincoln hospital early Friday morning.

Dr. Snowden, a native of Saltsburg, Pa., began practicing at Davenport in 1882-"the horse and buggy" era. During his long career he served as the family doctor for several generations of families.

He attended the University of Nebraska from 1871 to 1873 and the Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia.

In 1863, the Snowdens moved to Nebraska from their home in the east. Charles Snowden enrolled with the first class of the University of Nebraska September 7, 1871, and was a charter member of the Pailadian Literary Society. while a Lincoln resident he served as an usher at the First Presbyterian Church.

Dr. Snowden was married to Mary Justen Bean Fritzlen, at Davenport in 1887.

He was admitted to practice in 1882; the same year he established himself at Davenport. He was a past member of the village board, past member of the school board and during World War I was a member of the Thayer County Relief Project. He was a charter member of the Thayer County Medical Society; a member of the Nebraska State and American Medical Association; and the Nebraska Territorial Pioneers Association.

Dr. Snowden was a past master five times of A. F. & A.M. 154 affiliated with Knights Templar, Tehama Shrine, Hastings, and a member of the Methodist Church.

Dr. Snowden was honored on his ninetieth birthday by the citizens of Davenport for his outstanding services to the community.

He is survived by a niece and nephew.

Funeral services were held at Davenport Saturday.

A practicing physician for the past 62 years, he was thought to be one of the oldest In the state. He had retired only a few months ago due to illness. Until his 80th birthday, he was on 24-hour call daily and drove his own car. A native of Saltsburg, Pa., he was the son of one of the earliest physicians in Nebraska, I. Wayne Snowden, who at one time served In the U. S. army. In 1863, the Snowdens moved to Nebraska from their home In the east Charles Snowden enrolled with the first class of the University of Nebraska, Sept. 7, 1871, and was a charter member of the Palladian literary society. While a Lincoln resident, he served as an usher at the First Presbyterian Church. He completed his medical education at Jefferson medical college in Pennsylvania, coming back to Nebraska to settle in Davenport. . A member of the Masons since June 7, 1889, he received his 50 year medal in 1939. He was also member of the Scottish Rite, Knights Templar, and the Shrine.
Snowden was honored on his 90th birthday by the citizens of Davenport for his outstanding services to the community. He is survived by a niece and nephew.
