Obituary: George Dallas Turner, 81, dies Sept. 20, 2013
George Dallas Turner, 81, went home to meet his maker Sept. 20, 2013. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.D. Turner and was born in Heidenheimer, Texas.
He moved to Temple, where he attended Temple Public Schools, graduating in 1949. He attended his 60th high school reunion.
After graduating high school, George joined the U.S. Air Force. While stationed in Duluth, Minn., he met his wife of 57 years, Jacqueline Louetta Yost, on a blind date. George was then transferred to Texas where he attended the University of Texas.
In his senior year, George was hired by Conoco Oil Co. to begin a training program learning about oil and gas production. He worked in the oil and gas business for 27 years. He had various other jobs afterward including executive director of Brazos Business College and district manager for the Eagle Newspaper.
In 2006, George and Jackie moved to Burnet. He became a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. He had many jobs there and helped with many repairs to the church.
George like to brag that he started working at age 9 picking cotton and never did retire. His years in Burnet he spent as ranch manager at the Lucky Dog Ranch and says he enjoyed every minute of it. George was a hard worker and was liked by everyone he met. He was an avid golfer and a lifelong Longhorns fan. He got to enjoy several home games in the last few years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie and daughter Sharon Diane.
[He is survived by 2 sons, 2 daughters, 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, a brother in law] and his faithful dog Stoli, who had been his constant companion for the last 3 years.
The family would like to thank the members of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany for the love, care, friendship and guidance you bestowed on George during his time with you.
A memorial service is 4 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Burnet with the Rev. Ted Hervey officiating. The family will have a private burial at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
