John Moores was quiet and reserved as a young boy so much so that family and friends began to call him "Willis" which was the name of an elderly neighbor(Josiah B. Willis) with a similar demeanor.
As a boy Willis sold newspapers for the Richmond Register,
where he work continuously, newsboy to printer, for over 70 years. He lived his entire life in Richmond, never owned an automobile and walked to work every day. Willis was a quiet man much loved by his sons, daughter in laws and 15 grandchildren.
