He attended Morehouse College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. Among his acting credits are the movie "King," "Our Friend Martin" and the television movie "The Rosa Parks Story," in which he played the role of his father. In July 2013, he married Leah Weber in a private ceremony in California. He had no children. He attended the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington on August 24, 2013, commemorating the event where his father delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech.
