Mary "Mayme" Elener Little (1856-1924) was born in North Carolina to Thomas G Little (1820-1882) and Sarah Elizabeth Patrick Little (1841-1915) who were married in 1857. She was among the first students at the School of the Immaculate Conception in its opening year of 1869 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mary married Pleasant William "PW" Pittman (1854-1931) in Fulton County, Georgia on 30 November 1880. Pleasant, was a fish and oyster commissioner, United States Marshal, and one-time Chief of Police in Cincinnati. The couple had three children, Atena Merle Pittman Boynton (1882-1954) born in Atlanta, Robert Toombs Pittman (1889-1973) born in Texas, John Payne Pittman (1890-1939) born in Texas.
