Shirley May Swaim, 81, of Port Lavaca, Texas passed away peacefully at home on June 12, 2023. Shirley was born January 14, 1942 in Port Lavaca to the late James Lacie May and Zana Belle Marshall Hayes.
Shirley was born in the front bedroom of her grandparent's home because back then, Port Lavaca did not have a hospital.
She was a Calhoun High School graduate of the Class of 1960.
She is survived by her husband of 18 years, William (Bill) Swaim; brothers, Jimmy May of Port Lavaca, and Shannon May of El Campo; sister, Sandra May Smith (Bobby) of Port Lavaca; step-daughter, Darla Swaim; nieces, Misty Smith Garcia (David), Mandy Smith Barnes of Port Lavaca, and Andrea Betancourt of Marana, AZ.; nephew, Tyler May of Victoria; great nieces, Miranda Garcia (Preston), Jaycee Barnes, and Jaymee Barnes, all of Port Lavaca, Chloe Ellison of Marana, AZ., and Hadley May of Victoria; great nephew, Jacob Betancourt of Marana, AZ.;10 grandchildren and many cousins.
She is preceded in death by parents, James Lacie May, J.V. Hayes, and Zana Belle Hayes; grandparents, Alfred James (AJ) and Laura Marshall; stepdaughter, Deborah Swaim; stepbrother, Henry Hayes; 4 great-grandchildren, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be, Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM with a Chapel Service to begin
at 1:00PM at Grace Funeral Chapel, 1604 W. Austin St., Port Lavaca, Texas 77979. Burial to follow at Port Lavaca Cemetery, 500 Martin Luther King Dr., Port Lavaca, Texas 77979.
Pallbearers will be, Jimmy May, Tyler May, David Garcia, Steve Askew, Mike Marshall, and Lanny Marshall.
