KEPHART, Ezekiel Boring, born in Pennsylvania, Nov. 6, 1834 to Henry Kephart Jr. and Sarah (Goss) Kephart. On Nov. 4, 1860 he married Suzan J Trefts. His father was also a United Brethren in Christ minister. He was licensed to preach in 1857 or 1858, entered the ministry in 1859 and was ordained by Bishop Glossbrenner in 1959. He became principal of Michigan collegiate institute, Leonti, Michigan, in 1865, in which year he was graduated at Otterbein university, Ohio. He accepted a pastorate in Pennsylvania in 1866, became president of Western college, Iowa, in 1868. He also served in the state senate of Iowa in 1871-'5. In 1881 he was elected bishop in the United Brethren in Christ Church and served for 25 years. Otterbein university gave him the degree of D.D. in 1881.

Official positions: 1868-1881 - President of Western College; 1881-1885 - Bishop of South-West District; 1885-1897 Bishops were rotated; 1897-1901 - Bishop of the Ohio District; 1901-1905 - Bishop; 1905 - Bishop Emeritus; President of the Historical Society of the United Brethren in Christ; President of the Board of Education - 1970; 1889 - Board of Trustees. He Retired to Annville, Pennsylvania, however he died in Indianapolis, Indiana.
